Hello, and happy September! I read more in August than I read in June and July combined. I think this “I do what I want” approach is helping me get out of my mini-slump. So I’ll be continuing my list from last month and adding a few more.
Book Clubs
- Home for Erring and Outcast Girls by Julie Kibler
- Yellowface by R. F. Kuang (re-reading!)
- A Death in the Family by James Agee
Rise and Shine’s prompt for this month is “Reader’s Choice,” and I have a lot of great books I read last month to choose from.
Other Reading
These are mostly books I’ve checked out from the library. Some of them fulfill prompts from my reading challenges (and at least one of them will do quite nicely for 52 Book Club’s prompt “read in a “-ber” month), but most of them are just books I put on hold because someone said, “Hey, I bet you’d enjoy this.” I am happy to continue another month of reading for enjoyment. Here are more books I’ve added to the library pile:
- The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake
- The Atlas Paradox by Olivie Blake
- The Atlas Complex by Olivie Blake
- Barking With the Big Dogs by Natalie Babbitt
- Hell of a Book by Jason Mott
- People Like Us by Jason Mott
- Learning to Pray by James Martin
- Whose Body? by Dorothy L. Sayers
- The Wonder of All Things by Jason Mott
- The Book of Goose by Yiyun Li (52 Book Club – Lunar New Year Mini Challenge – I know, I’m a little behind, but in my defense, I didn’t know the mini-challenges existed until I scrolled down on StoryGraph and saw the prompts last month – “by an Asian author”)
- Home by Toni Morrison
- Open House by Elizabeth Berg (52 Book Club – Lunar New Year Mini Challenge – “a wise character”)
- Maggie, Or a Man and a Woman Walk Into a Bar by Katie Yee
- We Should All Be Birds by Brian Buckbee with Carol Ann Fitzgerald
- The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer
- Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett (52 book club prompt “plot includes a heist”)
- Ghostwriter by Julie Clark
- Vera Wong’s Guide To Snooping (on a Dead Man) by Jesse Q. Sutanto
- The Book of Lost Hours by Hayley Gelfuso
- The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill
- Thyme Travelers: An Anthology of Palestinian Speculative Fiction, edited by Sonia Sulaiman
- Starter Villain by John Scalzi
I am excited to tuck into all of these. What are you excited to read next?
